Responsibility
Responsible Mining

At SR Metals we practice responsible mining. We take care of the vast natural resources entrusted upon us. Through our programs we make sure that we rehabilitate the area in and around our mining site, and improve the quality of life of the communities that depend on it.

Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program

The Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Office (MEPEO) of SRMI raises the bar as far as environmental protection and enhancement is concerned. Vital environmental infrastructures undergoing completion works are as follows:

  • Comprehensive storm water runoff control system to control siltation of surface and coastal waters at a minimum.
  • Installation of water lines along major haulage roads on top of the seven water lorries that ply barangay-mine roads several times a day to minimize dust generation.
  • A botanical garden that houses the Nursery for the propagation of pioneer and hardwood species for eventual out-planting in mined-out areas, an in situ germplasm conservation center for the protection of rare, threatened, and endangered flora, and an arboretum for premium Philippine hardwood.

Our strong emphasis on biodiversity conservation is highlighted by the following programs:

  • Stand Improvement of Forest Protection Zones.
  • Propagation of Premium Hardwood Species.
  • Coral Reef Rehabilitation
  • Conservation and Protection of Freshwater Fishes and Frogs
Social Development and Management Program

The Community Relations and Development Office (CRDO) takes full responsibility in the implementation of the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). The vision of our SDMP is to "empower our host barangays and make them self-reliant, peaceful, healthy, and enjoying a well-balanced economic, social, and ecological development".

With empowerment, host barangays will be able to manage and mobilize community resources, improve the quality of life of their residents and enhance partnership among themselves and other stakeholders. "To uplift the quality of life of the residents in the communities towards the end of mine life and even long after SRMI has ceased its operation" is the ultimate social development goal of SRMI.

Households affected by the mining operations of SRMI will be relocated to a housing facility. A model house has been erected and full swing construction commences after perfection of local permits. The housing relocation program is a joint project between SRMI and Tubay LGU, where the latter donated a lot for the construction of homes for about 150 families.
